Who are we?
J&M Herp Shack is a Christian, family owned, home based
Bearded Dragons, Leopard Geckos or Mali Uromastyx breeding project that was not only designed
to keep, breed and sell various reptiles but also to provide a good source of information for new and
current reptile keepers. Owned and operated by myself, Jayr, and my wife Mandy. We have been married
for three years and have two wonderful little boys with another on the way for March 2006. Our oldest Elijah is 2 years old , and Chandler
is 6 months old, not to mention an ever growing list of various reptiles.
Where are we located?
We are located in and operated out of Southern Indiana where we both have spent our whole lives.
What is our goal?
Our goal here at J&M Herp Shack is provide out visitors/customers not only with healthy Bearded Dragons, Leopard Geckos and Mali Uromastyx,
but to be able to provide our knowledge and experience towards helping them be able to care for their
reptiles as best as they can. That is why all reptiles purchased here at J&M Herp Shack come with
lifetime of support from us by use of HCDragons Forums, emails, and/or Instant Messenger (IM) conversations,
(see contact page for email addresses and IM aliases).
How did it all get started?
Believe it or not, just in 2004 I, (Jayr) was begging and pleading to my wife, (Mandy) to let me
have a reptile. I didn't know much about them at all, except that I wanted one. Was interested in
Anoles because they were small and pretty easy to care for. So, Mandy had decided that her and our
son, (Elijah) were going to get me one for Fathers Day. So a few weeks before that day we were at
Petsmart and she told me of this little plan that she had and that I could go ahead and get one if
I wanted to that day. So we set out to get a basic setup for an Anole (or two), and as we were talking
with the sales associate, he mentioned that Anoles weren't the most affectionate reptiles, and were
pretty skittish so therefore introduced us to a Bearded Dragon, we didn't know ANYTHING about them at
the time, so we were asking how large they got and how big of a tank they would need and all the newbie
questions we are used to answering now. After about 2 hours of chatting with the associate, begging
and pleading with Mandy, picking out a tank and decor, and close to $300 later we went home with our
first Bearded Dragon, Spike. It just went "down hill" from there, it was less then 3 months and we had
already got our first Leopard Gecko Neo, and less then 6 months after that and we got our first Mali Uromastyx
Lil' Foot, and now we own and operate J&M Herp Shack. I'm sure this won't be the end of our reptile collection,
and I'm sure that we will end up with greater numbers of the species that we currently breed but, it just goes
to show how loveable and addicting reptiles are. At least WE think so. |
